Francesco Cupertino was born on December 1972. He received the Laurea degree and the PhD degree from the Politecnico di Bari in 1997 and 2001 respectively. From July 2002 is is at Politecnico di Bari, where he is a full professor of Converters, Electrical Machines and Drives since September 2016. Since October 2015 he is vice-head of the department of Electrical and Information Engineering at the Politecnico di Bari. 
Since 2010 F. Cupertino is research director of the laboratory "Energy Factory Bari", a multidisciplinary laboratory for research in aerospace and energy with joint public-private participation of GE Avio and Politecnico di Bari, based on a ten-years agreement. Currently, the laboratory enrolls about 40 researchers, with an average annual budget above 1 M€. 
In June 2016 Politecnico di Bari launched a new public-private laboratory with participation of CVIT SpA (BOSCH Group) named More Electric Transportation (MET). The laboratory is aimed at developing technologies for sustainable mobility and is based on a ten years agreement. He holds the position of responsible of the agreement for the Politecnico di Bari. 
He is senior member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) joining the Industry Applications Society and the Industrial Electronics Society. In 2015 he received two best paper awards from the Electrical Machines Committee of the IEEE Industry Application Society and the homonymous Committee of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.
